Italy is the 4th-largest manufacturing economy in the EU and also its 4th-largest importer of goods.
In both rankings, it follows the same three countries: Germany, the Netherlands and France.
The two things are closely connected. A large and diversified industrial base generates demand for raw materials, components, machinery, technologies and finished products from abroad.
In 2025, Italian imports reached around €593 billion. The chart, based on ExportPlanning data, breaks down more than €408 billion of imports across five major sectors and individual product categories.
